The following tools will assist you in locating maps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to consult the map librarian.
The steps below will assist you in locating materials in our Map Room:
For the most complete results, search by SUBJECT. Type in the place name and the word maps. For example, california maps.
Roger responds with all maps, atlases and related material for each subject category, from the general to the particular. The number of items for each subject category is given. Clicking on a subject/category and then clicking on a title will reveal the location details, including holding library and call number (you need both).
When maps are listed
as in "SSHL Map Room case," they can be found on SSHL Floor
1 in map cabinets. Map cabinets are in order, left to right. Call numbers
progress from the top to the bottom. All maps are marked with call
numbers
Drawers must be fully
opened to access the contents easily. Each drawer has a protective vinyl
tarp which can be curled back.
Maps are shelved in the map drawers face down, in call number order, from lowest number to highest. Maps to be refiled are on top of the brown paper insert used to protect the other contents.

Series maps have
graphic indexes filed in binders near the Map Room office to provide sheet
numbers needed in addition to the call number, or you can use Map
Finder. Indexes are usually marked to show sheets in the collection.
Sheets not held can often be borrowed via Interlibrary Loan by UCSD students,
faculty and staff. | ||||||||||||

All maps are marked
with call numbers corresponding to the Roger record. Here, the map is
one in a series, so it is hand annotated with the sheet number (G14A11). |
